Hip-Hop speech

Whad up guys,
Im doing a speech on Hip-Hop, what are some of the things I must talk about?!
please help.

There was sweet documentary I saw a while back on Death Row Records.
I think this was it: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0275066/
You could talk about the death of mainstream hip hop. Remember how great mainstream hip hop was in the early 90s?

You could talk about the role of beefs in hip hop.

There are lots of good books on the history of hip hop. Yes Yes Ya'll and Hip Hop America are good ones.

Talk about how it started with the DJ and how all the MC did was say, "Now wave your hands in the air" and shit like that and interact with the crowd. How this then led to rhyming short phrases while the DJ rocked out. And lastly how the MC became the star and the DJ then disappeared to gay techno clubs until the MC brought them back for the ride.
You could also talk about the vast difference between mainstream rap (flaunting wealth and prowess) and conscious underground rap (current state of affairs in the world, becoming a better person/better people, education - all mixed with a little prowess, of course).
I agree with lustmuffin, in that you should go all the way back to how things started.

Heh.. I don't know how long you'll be speaking, but you could also go into the different styles of hip hop around America today (e.g. west coast, east coast, the south, detroit, DC, etc..)
Talk about how hip hop emanates life.

Talk about how hip hop may have evolved in the poor, underprivileged communities that it did because it required nothing but your mind and voice which are free - no instruments, no band, no music instruction. Just a passion to bitch about the way things are. This is only my hypothesis of course, but I think it makes a lot of sense and I think its a beautiful hypothesis.

Mention graffiti and b-boying, since those are some very important elements to hip hop.
I love it..I had actually thought of most of these ideas already but thank you for giving me options on how to talk about them.
Graffiti, b-boying, The DJ, the MC, beatboxing...all of those Im going to talk about.
Cool. I'm glad this helped. I was afraid I was late since I see you originally asked your question on the 9th.
I did my speech yesterday..I covered all the points that you guys said except for the West vs. East beef because I just ran out of time...Thank you all for the help
(I did watch that death row records documentary too,, it was pretty cool and I used it as one of my sources haha)
What did the people you gave the speech to think of it?
Well it was for a class so it was kind of one person finishes the other one goes immediately after kinda thing...we didn't really have time to give/get feedback but i got a couple of "good jobs" from some of my classmates
Okay, cool.
Right on.
