Yes, Luther Vandross is on One Line Rhyme

Why you ask? Well here’s the story…

Long, long ago, before login was required, some anonymous visitor added the suspect quote, “creep in my dreams” by the legendary R&B singer known as Luther Vandross. Now, we aren’t positive if this is really in fact a quote from Luther himself, but we’d like to think it possibly could be from one of his lesser known songs. The fact that someone added a quote from a R&B singer on a hip hop site is weird, but the quote itself doesn’t get any more bizarre. Whether it be legit or not, it will remain on the site until we get a rally of comments that say otherwise. Unfortunately, it’s currently on the Whack page most likely due to it’s obscurity.

Please don’t think, by us keeping him on the site, that we have anything against the great Luther Vandross. I think we can all agree that he was a great singer and much respected artist.

OLR Tip#1: Editing your Rhymes

A feature that has been on the site for a while now is the ability to edit the rhymes you contributed. To edit your rhyme and it’s information, simply double click on the rhyme, artist, album, or song title. Update the information then click “Update.” To cancel, either click outside of the input field or “Nevermind” (pictured below.)

Another added tip: if a rhyme was created without the album or song information, any logged in user can update the information by double clicking on the “Click to edit” text (pictured below). Once updated, the only person who can edit the information after that is the user who added the rhyme.

Two new email notification types.

New to the site is the funtionality to reply to another user’s comment or forum post. In the past the email notification would only go out to the user that originally added the content that was being commented on. We hope this feature adds more discussion and involvement to the site. Oh.. and those of you who don’t want to be bothered by the emails visit your profile page to turn them off.

The site will be going through some major changes in the upcoming weeks/months.
With Summer nearing an end, we decided it was time to fit in an update before school started.
It’s actually more like a Version 2 of the site, cause there will be quite a few changes involved.

As some of your may have noticed, the site is getting considerably slow,
we’ve lost the ability to have Google Analytics for some strange reason involved in the plugin used on the home page form,
Sometimes the site will hang when a vote or comment is placed,
and user profile pages take a considerable amount of time to load.
We hope to fix all these issues and more in the new version, by making the site more efficient and quicker.

Anyway, enough talk. Here are some of the changes upcoming:

First of all, the site is getting a new look.

No need to refresh the page when ‘adding another rhyme’.
Viewing latest rhymes is slicker and cleaner.
View the latest forum posts from the home page.
Spit from the home page.
Artist cloud is cached, so it won’t take forever to load every page.

You will now be able to log in on whatever page you are currently on.

Artist & Album pages will have a quick bio thanks to Last.fm.

Also, recent activity chart will show trends for the artist/album.

Revamped commenting system!

Reply and vote on any comment made.
Replies are loaded on demand to help quicken page loads.

Revamped rhyme detail layout.

This was changed to make room for the new commenting system.

Wishlist (these are updates, which may or may not come in the immediate release, but *will* come).

Edit/remove rhymes (*removing a rhyme may be disabled if comments have been made to it already).
Ability to remove comments.
Ability to re-vote on any rhyme in case of re-thought or voting on accident.
Ability to reply to forum posts.
Dynamic forum, which will update if you are on the page and new post is made (*this will be highty experimental.. we’ll see what happens :p).
…and more stuff I haven’t thought of yet.

Last note…

Thanks to all have contributed so far!! We are happy the site has made it this far and has grown so much in the last year.
We are hoping to push the update towards the end of September, but it might come sooner. Like I said, the site will be going through changes.. new updates here and there.
Be patient and enjoy Version 1 while it’s still around. :D

Wow! We hit the 1000 rhyme mark this month and gained a couple more users.
We’ve made room on the home page by creating this blog and re-arranging the rhyme form.
This will probably be the last major update for a little while (as in adding major features).
Instead we’ll be making enhancements here and there like being able to edit forum posts and pages load faster.

We felt it was finally time to remove the ‘beta’ from the logo.
To a developer, saying your website is in ‘beta’ is like a skateboarder wearing a helmet.
It really doesn’t mean anything other than, ‘please don’t hurt us if something goes wrong.’
Not that anything should go wrong, but we just wanted everyone to know that we are officially taking our helmets off.
